๐ŸŒฟ Hair Care

Low porosity,
high standards.

Everything I've learned about caring for low-po hair โ€” wash day routines, trackers, and the products that actually give results.

Understanding Porosity

Hair porosity determines how it absorbs and retains moisture. Mine is low-po โ€” here's what that means and why it matters.

โฌ‡๏ธ
Low Porosity

Resistant to moisture

  • Takes forever to get wet
  • Products sit on top of hair
  • Needs heat to open cuticle
  • Prone to buildup
  • Dries slowly once wet

That's me!

Low-Po Routine Goals

  • Use heat to open the cuticle
  • Lightweight, liquid-based products
  • Clarify regularly to remove buildup
  • Protein-free moisture focus
  • Steam or warm water rinse
โฌ†๏ธ
High Porosity

Absorbs quickly, loses fast

  • Gets wet immediately
  • Absorbs products fast
  • Needs heavy sealers
  • Prone to frizz and dryness
  • Benefits from protein treatments

My Low-Po Routine

Step by step โ€” what I do every wash day for soft, moisturized results without product buildup.

1

Pre-Poo with Light Oil

Apply a light oil (argan or jojoba โ€” NOT heavy coconut) to dry hair before washing. This protects the hair shaft from hygral fatigue during washing. Leave on 20โ€“30 minutes.

Light oils only โ€” avoid heavy butters
2

Clarifying Shampoo

Low-po hair builds up product fast. Use a clarifying shampoo 1โ€“2x per month to fully reset. Regular wash weeks, use a gentle sulfate-free shampoo with warm water to start opening the cuticle.

Warm water โ€” never cold to start
3

Steam or Warm Deep Condition

This is the most important step for low-po. Apply a lightweight deep conditioner, then sit under a hooded dryer or use a heat cap for 20โ€“30 min. Heat forces the cuticle open so moisture actually gets IN.

Heat cap or hooded dryer โ€” essential
4

Cool Water Rinse

Rinse with cool or cold water to seal the cuticle back down. This seals in all the moisture from your deep condition and adds shine.

Cold water seals the cuticle
5

Leave-In + Style on Damp Hair

Apply a water-based leave-in conditioner to soaking wet hair (LOC or LCO method). Avoid heavy creams and butters โ€” they coat low-po hair and block moisture. Style while hair is very wet.
