3 Days in Tokyo

A real guide built from my actual trips — I live 45 minutes from Tokyo and have taken almost everyone I know to these exact spots. This is what I tell them.

Day 1
Arrival & East Tokyo
Morning
Asakusa & Senso-ji Temple
Arrive before 9am to beat crowds. Dawn is magical.
✦ Stop at Nakamise shopping street for traditional snacks
Afternoon
Akihabara → Ueno
Electronics district then Ueno Park and museums.
Evening
Ramen dinner in Ikebukuro
Ramen street has multiple styles. Try at least two.
✦ Go before 6pm to avoid waits
Day 2
Culture & Fashion
Morning
Harajuku & Meiji Shrine
Serene shrine then Takeshita Street for crepes and fashion.
Afternoon
Shibuya Crossing & Omotesando
Do the crossing, then high-end shopping on Omotesando.

Evening
Shinjuku Golden Gai
Tiny bars, local vibes, unforgettable atmosphere.
Day 3
Food & Hidden Gems
Morning
Tsukiji Outer Market
Best sushi and fresh seafood breakfast of your life. Be there by 8am.

Afternoon
Shimokitazawa
Vintage shops, indie cafes, live music. Tokyo's coolest neighborhood.
Evening
Izakaya farewell dinner
Find a neighborhood izakaya, order everything, celebrate.

Marissa's Tokyo Tips

Get a Suica card on arrival — tap on/tap off for every train and bus. Load it with ¥3000 to start.
Download Google Maps offline for Tokyo before you land. The subway looks scary but you'll get it by day 2.
Cash is still used everywhere. Get yen from the 7-Eleven ATM — lowest fees for foreign cards.
Summer in Tokyo is HOT and humid. Light clothing, a portable fan, and sunscreen every day.
Convenience store food (7-Eleven, FamilyMart) is genuinely good. Don't skip it.
Be quiet on the trains. No phone calls, keep your voice low. Locals notice and appreciate it.
